Folk On The Lawn

"innovative folk for innovative folk"

   Jul 14

Over for another year…

What a Folk on the Lawn, eh?  While ‘the fringe’ may be continuing, still, in the Rose and Crown, the main festival has concluded for another year. What looked, on paper, a great line up turned out to be even better. Some wonderful performances (music, dance and the spoken word), good weather, new friends made and, in general and as always, an atmosphere of camaraderie and conviviality, whilst retaining challenges in terms of comfort zones. Innovative folk for innovative folk.

Thanks to:

- All who performed

- All who attended

- The children’s area: Sam and Rachel: they not only got married on the Saturday morning (to each other) but were there on Friday setting up their equipment and stayed until the festival’s end. MANY CONGRATULATIONS both!!

- The sound people: Mike, Big John and Rhys on the River Stage in the day; Andy (who recorded the whole event also) and Sean on the River Stage in the evenings; Jon M and Sean on the Mill Stage; the superb Anthony Challenger on the Bar Stage

- The people who did all the work organising and facilitating in terms of raffles, merchanise, etc: Val, Joan, Sue, Carroll, Jan, Trish and Dave (and Jac and Emily on the Saturday)

- The best comperes we’ve had: Peter Gowen on the River Stage; Nick Smith on the Bar Stage

- The Raffle Kids: (Big) Harry, Zosia and Merlin (and young Harry on the Saturday)

- Face painting: Róisín

Finally (though I’m certain we’ve forgotten a number of people), a HUGE thank you to Shelley and Chris and the big, brilliant team at Abbey Mill for investing massive amounts of energy and time – and many physical resources – in FotL, for allowing us to use The Lawn and for making everyone feel massively at home during preparation and event.

We discovered, this year, that at least three songs have been written about FotL (Wicker Bones actually performed one of them this year) and a further song written especially for the festival. Anyone else who has written a song, a poem, a story, etc about FotL, get in touch! We’d also be interested in links to any photos and videos that have been uploaded to any site – we can link to them.

Right, we’re all going to lie down in a darkened room for a few months. Again, thank you all.
